In the first week of this program we familiarized ourselves with the website and the tools that we will be using during the course and as teachers. I really liked how the website fostered learning from each other by allowing us to see each other's submissions, for me, this is a key part of gold standard education. This type of framework allows the students themselves to become teachers and it can exponentially magnify their world view, perspective and learning.
We were able to share practical feedback to current problems. For example, we were able to exchange feedback and incorporate it into lessons the very next day and see an improvement as a result.
The course also facilitated getting to know the other students. This was done through the first cohort meeting, their assignment answers, discussion threads and through Facebook. We set up a Facebook group for our cohort.
We also experimented with video as a medium for communicating. Video is likely to be used even more in the future with online and flipped learning. I love how sharing video lessons can reach a wider audience and have a greater impact. Being able to pause, replay a video also has benefits.
